ASUS preparing the PC and the laptops of Eee of touchscreen for launching 2009 of Windows 7?

Classified below: Laptops
With the laptop of the touchscreen of the HP appearing indistinctly on the horizon, the escapes come outside from a lappie of touchscreen of ASUS programmed for launching in first half of 2009. GCV of Eee of touchscreen too (in conclusion, well?) if the sources of DigiTimes to the manufacturers of panel are correct (who they tend to being with regard to ASUS). According to the Taiwanese rag of industry, ASUS will probably employ a panel of touchscreen of 12.1 inches or 11.6 inches developed by the opto-electronic of WITH (AUO) or the optoelectronics of Mei de Chi (CMO). What is odd here is the complaint by sources that one expects that the books of touch-panel “benefit from Windows 7” and probably new the OS of Microsoft multi-touch possibilities. Strange, since Windows 7 is not officially envisaged until formerly the beginning of 2010 — a date seeming more and more as a goal publicly upholstered to avoid Microsoft striking received for its Vista delays. The whispers add certainly a little more credit to the rumours of a release 2009 as expressed by Bill Gates himself, or more specifically on June 3, 2009 as pled marked in internal calendar of Microsoft. $300 apparent turns of PC of Eee upwards in the form of 701SDX

Classified below: Laptops
Nothing is completely official just still, but people with the news of PC of Eee have their hands on certain PEAKS of a model up to now unknown of the PC 701SDX of Eee, which they speculate could be well the PC of sub-$300 (we guess $299) Eee which we were hearing about it. Glances of him, this seems to be a rather sure claim, with the netbook packing a posting of 7 inches and surrounding the webcam to save some males. No word on any Spéc., unfortunately, but on news of PC of Eee seems to think that it there has at least a chance that it could surround Celeron of the original PC 701 of Eee in favour of a processor of atom, and packs a ordering of the disc transistorized 4GB or 8GB, plus Windows Xp for an OS. If the history of ASUS is any indication, however, we should undoubtedly know rather soon.

Microsoft examine councils at the moment on the concept of OS

Hmm, what have we here? A recent Microsoft survey sent out to select users has us wondering what on Earth the mega-corp is planning to do next, and judging by the looks of things, it has everything to do with Instant On. We’ve seen a number of these lightning-fast boot applications, with the most recent being ASUS’ Splashtop OS and the iteration loaded onto Dell’s freshest Latitudes. The survey makes mention that the “Instant On experience is different from ‘Full Windows’ because it limits what activities you can do and what applications you have access to.” The survey also asks about which applications would be most important to have quick access to, and it very plainly states that in this “scenario,” your PC would “be usable in eight seconds.” So, is Instant On coming to Windows? Who knows — but it’s clear someone at Redmond is giving it some thought.

Do ASUS carry out half-turn on the BRITISH arrangement of replacement of battery?

No UK 5800 battery upgrade for the UKASUS UK are now reportedly telling UK users of the EEEPC 900 who are complaining of the supply of an inferior battery with the machine (see earlier post below) that their much heralded “battery replacement scheme” is on hold “until further notice”. This seems to fly in the face of their earlier press release, which makes a big deal of their wonderful customer service in its rhetoric.

Typical of the responses our UK users are getting from ASUS UK is this one, which eeeuser member loopz posted on the battery discussion thread. loopz says it was received from ASUS customer service in the UK.

Dear Customer,

Like I promised I would give you an update as soon as I got one.
The Exchange for the battery is postponed until further notice.
I am so sorry for this late call but I only heard 2 minutes ago about it.
The minute I know something else I will let you know.

With Kind Regards
Glady’s

It seems to me that, with the competition (for example, the MSI Wind) hot on the heels of the ASUS EEEPC 901, ASUS could have handled the UK battery situation far batter. Potential buyers will surely be asking themselves if this is the sort of after sales service they deserve after forking out their hard earned money on a new UMPC - and they will also no doubt be considering the alternatives.

The ASUS press release quoted by Mobile Computer Magazine’s web page starts off with the bold statement “ ASUS delivers unique customer service“.

UK 900 buyers must be finding the customer service offered by ASUS UK truly “unique” indeed.

Windows Xp to fight Linux on ULCPCs until 2010

Ending some spectulation on our part of exactly how newer EeePCs and their competitors would continue offering Windows past this summer comes news of Microsoft giving Windows XP a stay of execution until 2010 for what they call “ultra-low-cost PCs”.

Windows Vista only officially supports 1 Ghz processors and up, as well as 20GB of HD space. Would make it kinda hard to cram that onto a 4GB SSD wouldn’t it?

There is some speculation trailing from this announcement that Microsoft may actually be planning on releasing Windows 7 sooner rather than later due to the statement that they would support Windows XP until 2010 or 1 year after the release of Windows 7, whichever is later. Here at CLUMPC we think that this sounds more like Microsoft covering their tail in case Windows 7 comes out even later than expected, not the opposite. Remember, Windows XP came out in 2001 and its still around. We may even see it being sold with certain machines a full 10 years after its release. We wish we could say that that was a testament to how good it was, but unfortunately it speaks to how poorly received Vista has been thus far.

Linux distros have their work cut out for them for at least the next 2 years on the UMPC front it sounds like. Microsoft axing XP in favor of Vista certainly would have provided a huge head start for OSes like Ubuntu Mobile. Hopefully we will continue to see newer UMPC-targeted distros that help move the industry away from a 7 year old OS.

Confirmed: 8.9 ″ EeePC comprising touchscreen (perhaps GPS) in May/June

Kevin Lin, vice president of Asustek’s sales department, confirmed to Digitimes this morning that the 2nd generation EeePC will in fact include an 8.9″ touchscreen. This is contrary to statements made by the company in the past which suggested that users were not interested in touch for the EeePC at the moment.

The new EeePC is also reported to “possibly” have GPS support. Whether this means a built-in GPS unit or simply support for a GPS add-on is not clear at this time.

The company is aiming to ship 5 million of the little guys in 2008 through retail as well as contract orders. The 8.9″ EeePC is expected to ship in May or June.

Actualizations of software of EeePC Xandros available now

French website Blogeee.net is reporting that after more than 4 months of being on the market in the US, the EeePC is finally beginning to see some software updates for the default Xandros distro beginning to appear. This is good news for all the hundreds of thousands of EeePC owners who have chosen to keep it real with the default OS without having to worry about those nasty exploit concerns.

Additionally updates to support to newly announced EeeAP WiFi router is present. Other updates available target webcam, PDF, messenger, Skype, Firefox Internet radio, OpenOffice, and photo management software.

For those out there who haven’t switched over to Windows or a different Linux variant this update seems to be long awaited and recommended for everyone. It is also a great show of good faith that despite Asus’ recent Windows-related EeePC announcements, they haven’t given up on Linux.
